Lab Equipment

The CNET Shared User Facility houses the following tools, instruments, and equipment for nanoscale hybrid materials research and development. The CNET Fee Structure can be accessed here.  Instrument Reservation should be done using an online system, FOM.

Synthesis and Preparation

  • 1,200 square feet of wet-lab space that includes chemical fume hoods, house chilled water, Type I and III water, compressed air and dry nitrogen gas
  • Large refrigerator/freezer for sample storage
  • Bench top Centrifuge with a 300 mL capacity, capable of 8,000 rpm
  • Ultracentrifuge with a 240 mL capacity, capable of 90,000 rpm
  • High-volume Freeze Dryer
  • Rotary evaporator
  • Convection Ovens in 177 and 179
  • Vacuum Oven
  • Nitrogen Furnace (1000°C Limit)
  • High Temperature Furnace (1700°C Limit)
  • Incubator/shaker (25°C to 80°C), and several hotplates with magnetic stirring
  • Argon Glove Box for handling air-sensitive materials
  • Nitrogen Glove Boxes ( A & B )  with turbo-pumped physical vapor deposition systems for inorganic and organic thin films
  • HEPA-filtered workstation

  • Fourier Transform Infrared Spectrometer (FTIR) with attachments for
    • Attenuated Total Reflectance (ATR)
  • Thermogravimetric Analyzer (TGA)
    • Evolved gas furnace allows for coupling of TGA to Infrared detector
  • Thermogravimetric Analyzer with Differential Thermal Analysis (TG/DTA)
  • Laser Induced Fluorescence Spectrometer
  • Dynamic Light Scattering particle-size instrument with Zetapotential
  • Potentiostat with Frequency Response Analyzer

  • Rheometer with Tribology and Microscope attachments ( MCR301 & MCR501 )
  • Optical absorbance and fluoresence spectrometer
  • Quartz Crystal Microbalance with dissipation detection
  • Spectral Reflectance instrument capable of determining thickness of films
  • Differential Scanning Calorimeter
  • Solar Cell Spectral Response and Quantum Efficiency Testing
  • Vacuum Probe Station for device testing
  • Porosity and surface area testing
    • Nitrogen Gas Porosimeter ( ASAP 2020 & ASAP 2460 )
    • Mercury Porosimeter
  • Combined Small/Wide Angle X-ray Scattering of solids, liquids and pastes
  • Dielectric Spectrometer
    • Temperature Controlled -160 °C – 400 °C
    • Frequency range from 3 μHz to 3 GHz
  • Density and Sound velocity meter for solutions, suspensions and thin pastes.
